Assault against an activist who took Siddaramaiah to court in the Muda case

Activist Snehamayi Krishna, one of the complainants in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Land allotment scamhas been named as an accused in an assault and harassment case in Karnataka.

Complainant Lavanya alleged that Krishna along with three others tried to attack her, dragged her, used obscene language and threatened to kill her. The incident reportedly took place on July 18 when Lavanya and her mother were returning from court.

Lavanya alleged that the harassment was related to a property dispute between her late husband’s family and the distribution of death beneficiary funds and her jewelry. She claimed that Krishna was acting on behalf of her in-laws. Lavanya’s husband died of a heart attack in 2020.

An FIR was registered on August 21, 2024 at Nanjangud police station in Mysuru district for cruelty, unlawful restraint, assault, intentional insult, criminal intimidation and joint criminal liability. Besides Krishna, there are three other accused in the case: Prabha, Siddappa and Daba Jayakumar.

Krishna has denied the allegations made against him and claimed the case was a trumped-up attempt to suppress his activism.

“Over 23 cases have been filed against me, most of which are false complaints. In eight cases my innocence was proven in court and in nine other cases police investigations revealed that the complaints were false. These false lawsuits are being filed.” “I will suppress my fight, but I will not hesitate – I will move forward,” he said.

Krishna said there were indications that he was not present in Nanjangud at the time of the alleged incident. He also expressed doubts about the complainant’s motives, suggesting that she may have been involved in her husband’s death, and accused the police of negligence in investigating the case.

Snehamayi Krishna, a prominent RTI activist, is known to have filed a CBI petition in the Karnataka High Court Investigations against Prime Minister Siddaramaiah in the high-profile MUDA corruption case. He has also filed a complaint with the law enforcement agency in this case.

The MUDA case brought to light allegations of land misuse and irregularities, and Krishna’s complaint had made headlines because it targeted the sitting chief minister. The Lokayukta police have already done this registered an FIR against Siddaramaiahhis wife Parvathi BM and two others based on Krishna’s complaint.
