Police are investigating the shooting of Bontas

The death of an Eastern Cape man who was shot dead in Bonteheuwel on Saturday morning is shrouded in mystery.

Local councilor Angus McKenzie said police were called to the scene within minutes menstruation immediately came out with information about the shooting.

“Shortly after 8 a.m. two well-known gangsters are said to have murdered a driver of a silver VW Polo in the R-block of Bonteheuwel. I immediately received the description and whereabouts of the two people and was able to pass this information on to our tip service immediately.”

McKenzie says police arrived on Redberry Street and found the driver had been shot in the neck.

“At first everyone thought it was an Uber driver who was robbed and shot, but when they looked they found that no money had been stolen and it didn’t appear he was an Uber driver either.” says McKenzie.

“He was shot in the neck but further details are being investigated by the police. Just hours after receiving the information at 12:30 sharp, the two suspects were arrested and taken to Bishop Lavis Police Station in connection with the shooting.”

Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the shooting but said there were no arrests at this time.

“The circumstances surrounding a shooting on Saturday morning in Redberry Close, Bonteheuwel, in which a 24-year-old man was shot dead are currently under investigation.

“Bishop Lavis police responded to a complaint of a shooting and when they arrived on scene they found the victim in his vehicle with gunshot wounds to the body. The motive for the attack is part of the police investigation. The suspect(s) are yet to be arrested.”

Upon hearing this, McKenzie said: “It could be that they have not been charged yet and that is why Saps says there is no official arrest, but we know they have been arrested by the police.”
