Local sports handball regional league North promoted team SG Gutach/Wolfach celebrates a dream start News from Ortenau

Kinzigtäler easily defeated TV St. Georgen in the derby on Saturday evening with 29:19.

After being promoted again, SG Gutach/Wolfach started the state league with a clear derby victory. Thanks to an excellent defensive performance and a strong goalkeeping performance, the team of Matthias Wetzel and Michael Wöhrle beat TV St. Georgen 29:19 (14:11).

After a break of several years, teams and fans from both camps were keen for the new edition of the Black Forest derby. The teams needed a few minutes to get up to speed in the first competitive game. Despite a few serious failures, last year’s eighth-placed team from the South initially made good use of the hosts’ somewhat hasty attacks. Tim Eisele, Bergstädter’s best thrower, played a part in his colors’ 6:4 and 8:6 scores, but also supported big decisions with many penalty throws. The SG coaching team changed the defense and had better access, without the TVS attacks ending in goals or at the seven-meter line. The better defensive work also brought SG keeper Claudius Baumann into the game, who was again in top form and was the necessary support to turn the game around. The hosts now had the necessary calm at the front to take a 14:11 lead by the break.

Even after the break, the hosts got off to a better start. The defense and goalkeeper continued to impress, and up front the SG posed a goal threat in all positions. After 40 minutes, the SG presented at 8:13 p.m. The coaching team was able to change things up and allow playmaker Elias Breithaupt to play the first minutes of the game after a month-long injury layoff. Robin Storz and young player Florian Vollmer were also able to make an impact after being substituted on. It was also worth mentioning for the coaches that the sending off of Lukas Glühnk (50th minute) did not break the hosts’ game. The SG played their first state league game confidently and conceded only 19 goals and won 29:19.

Wetzel and Wöhrle are very satisfied with the team’s performance, but warn against placing too much emphasis on the victory. However, some top performers were missing from the guests.
