Electronic patient record campaign launched

Berlin: The Federal Ministry of Health has started an advertising campaign for electronic patient files. Minister Lauterbach commented on the idea of a great day for the digitalization of the healthcare system. After 20 years of preparation, the electronic patient record, or ePA for short, was launched in 100 days. The digital files should contain all doctor’s letters, findings, images and prescriptions from a legally insured patient. Lauterbach pointed out that doctors are currently often missing important findings when treating patients in an emergency. The ePA solves the problem. Drug interactions could also be significantly reduced. The Minister of Health spoke of up to 65,000 deaths every year that could be prevented in this way. According to him, patients remain in control of their data and can decide for themselves who they allow access to.
