Apple Watch 10 has comparable fast charging to Airpods

If the Airpods refuse to work because the battery is empty, the following trick is known to help: Put them in the charging case for five minutes, then the headphones have enough charge for an hour of music or 45 minutes of phone calls.

Apparently Apple has given the Apple Watch Series 10 a comparable start function, because the newly published website with technical specifications now says:

Charge up to 80% in about 30 minutes⁷

15 minutes for up to 8 hours of normal use

8 minutes for up to 8 hours of sleep tracking

The manufacturer announced at the keynote that the Apple Watch Series 10 charges to 80 percent a little faster than its predecessor. Incidentally, we were unable to clearly prove these results in our test (read our test of the Apple Watch 10 here). What is new, however, is turbo charging for the first few percent of charge: 15 minutes on the charging cradle can be enough for a whole day.

Incidentally, we can confirm this behavior after we completely discharged the Series 10 and Series 9 to zero in three runs last week and then charged them to 100 percent with the appropriate cable and power supply.

We observed that the Apple Watch Series 10 turned on significantly faster than the Series 9 in the test, usually in the third to sixth minute on the charger, whereas the Series 9 turned on in the seventh to eighth minute. In the first ten minutes of charging, the Apple Watch Series 10 consistently achieved 20 to 28 percent of charge, the Series 9 – just under ten.

Only as the charging process progresses does the charging curve of the two watches flatten out, which is why in our tests the Apple Watch Series 10 rarely achieved the promised 80 percent charge within half an hour.

By the way, we also measured how the turbo charging mode works on the Airpods:

In the first five minutes with the case and headphones empty, the power is passed on directly to the Airpods, so that they can reach 40 percent battery charge within five minutes. The power only comes to the charging case after twenty minutes and the headphones charge more and more slowly.
