Under debate rules set by CBS, there will be no live studio audience or opening statements from Vance and Walz.

Each candidate has two minutes to answer a question posed and the other candidate has two minutes to respond, along with one minute for rebuttals. The microphones will be hot throughout the debate, and Vance and Walz will stand behind the podiums, standing out from the traditionally seated vice presidential candidates, USA TODAY reports.

Candidates are not given any questions or topics in advance and have the opportunity to make their two-minute final statement. Campaign staff are not permitted to interact with Walz and Vance during breaks.
