  • Stan Wawrinka is now the new brand ambassador for the Austrian crypto bank Bitpanda.

  • The 38-year-old combines two of his great passions: tennis and crypto currencies.

  • For Bitpanda, it is the next involvement in the sports world after FC Bayern Munich and the NFL.

The French-speaking Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka has had a world career on the court: with three Grand Slam titles and a total of 16 tournaments won, the now 38-year-old from Vaud is one of the most successful athletes in the country. And: The man from Lausanne is still on the international tennis circuit – next at the ATP 1000 in Shanghai.

As at the US Open, Wawrinka will compete there with a new logo on the sleeve of his brute right serving arm – namely that of the crypto bank Bitpanda. After Bayern Munich and the NFL, “Stanimal” will be the Austrian company’s next involvement in the sports world.

Why Stan Wawrinka?

“We know the fascination that the world of sport has on people,” says CEO and founder Eric Demuth, explaining the decision to rely on Wawrinka as a brand ambassador. Partnerships in this environment are always about working with divisions and brands to share Bitpanda’s values.

His 16 titles, including three Grand Slams, speak for themselves. Added to this is Stan’s ideal positioning between Switzerland and France: “Bitpanda has long been extremely committed and present in the Swiss market as well as in France, where Stan regularly dominates in clay court tournaments.” Stan understands and supports cryptocurrency and blockchain, said Demuth.

“My father is a fan of FC Bayern”

Wawrinka also understands and supports cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, which makes him the ideal ambassador. Meanwhile, Stan confirmed: “I have been interested in crypto technology for several years and have invested some time in the topic outside of the tennis court.” Now these two passions can be perfectly combined.

His father is also a big fan of FC Bayern Munich and Bitpanda’s collaboration with this internationally known football club creates a further emotional connection. Neither side wants to reveal how much money Stan receives for his engagement. It can be assumed that one or two tickets for Bayern will be included in the package.
