The students return to the unibz campus. The new students were welcomed by the new rector.

Study operations at the university began on Monday in the fully occupied Aula Magna.

In addition to the outgoing rector and the one in office from tomorrow, the director of the university also welcomed the new students. “Freshers Day” represents a double new beginning: not only for the students, but also for the new university itself. Today, Prof. Paolo Lugli’s double term of office as rector ends and he hands over the baton to Prof. Alex Weissensteiner , previously Vice Rector for Teaching and future academic director of unibz.

The event at the Bolzano campus marks the start of lectures for over 1,000 new students on the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. There are also more than 150 exchange students from all over Europe and the world. An exciting moment for the young people who decided to train in South Tyrol and thus embarked on the path to their professional future.

“The decision to undertake trilingual training shows courage and commitment. “This is something that is valued and recognized by companies,” emphasizes Prof. Paolo Lugli in his speech. A point that the new rector, Prof. Alex Weissensteiner, also took up and emphasized: “This is the beginning of a new journey – for you and for me.” Together we can overcome any challenge. I have already seen many students at different universities, but in this lecture hall I see many faces with the necessary motivation that you need to successfully master a multilingual university like ours.”

Director Günther Mathà underlined the importance of the university community: “Our wider university is a community of students, professors, researchers and academic staff that can constantly develop and improve through their collaboration.”

The institutional welcome was followed by speeches by student representatives Paulina Hedler and Aurora Bellotti. They explained how student participation works at unibz and emphasized how important the opinions of students are in the university’s decision-making processes. Finally, the deans of the four Bolzano faculties will present the innovations to the study programs.
