The road in Henry County is reopening after a major gas leak in the main line led to its closure, officials say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A major road in Henry County was closed Monday afternoon and a business along the road was evacuated due to a “large gas main leak,” officials said.

According to Henry County Emergency Management and Homeland Security (EMA), Jonesboro Road between Mount Olive Road and Mill Road was closed due to the leak but has since reopened.

However, they said the entrance to the Navy Federal Credit Union location where the gas leak was reported will remain closed as Atlanta Gas Light crews continue repair work on the gas line.

Shortly after 3 p.m., the Henry County EMA said it and the Henry County Fire Department were issuing “an urgent alert” about the leak at the Navy Federal Credit Union building at 1835 Jonesboro Road in McDonough.

The Henry County EMA said they were evacuating the business “and possibly other businesses in the area.”

“Currently, we have reached a cap on gas,” EMA officials said in the announcement.

They said Jonesboro Road was blocked in both directions between Mount Olive Road and Mill Road and asked people to avoid the area. An hour later they announced that the road had been reopened.

Henry County Fire Rescue is monitoring the situation, EMA officials said.
