Alexander Zverev “tired than usual” but fighting before the Masters in Shanghai

Zverev loses second place in the world rankings to Alcaraz

In 2019, Zverev was in the final in Shanghai, but he has not yet won the tournament – and a triumph is not to be expected this time either. Overall, the year isn’t going as he had hoped: the longed-for Grand Slam victory didn’t materialize, and the Olympic Games also ended disappointingly. Then there were the physical problems. Zverev will lose his status as number “2” in the world to Alcaraz next Monday, that is already certain.

But of course Zverev won’t give away the season because his ambition is too great. Shanghai will be followed by the tournament in Vienna and another Masters in Paris, before the Blick ATP Finals in Turin from November 10th. It is still questionable whether the 27-year-old will then compete in the Davis Cup finals in Malaga or whether he will then go on vacation.

The game will be played in Spain from November 19th to 24th, at which time Zverev usually snorkels in the Maldives. Zverev is not in the provisional DTB squad, but a place is reserved for him. However, the final round clashed with his well-deserved vacation, which he so urgently needs in order to be able to take on the next attempt in Melbourne, Paris, Wimbledon and New York in 2025 with renewed vigor.
