The White House holds a press conference amid the Helene disaster operations and Iranian missile attacks on Israel

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will address the press Tuesday afternoon as the southeastern United States recovers from Hurricane Helene.

President Biden plans to visit North Carolina on Wednesday to see the damage firsthand. On Monday, Biden criticized former President Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, for his criticism of his administration’s response to the storm.

The President will be briefed on current response and recovery efforts later Tuesday afternoon.

The briefing also comes in the context of the conflict in the Middle East, as Iran began firing rockets at Israel following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon over the weekend – and after Israel appeared to rebuff ceasefire negotiations led by the United States and France .

Jean-Pierre, who will be accompanied by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, is scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
