Zurich: City of Zurich housing fund starts in 2025

The city of Zurich’s new housing fund will be available from 2025: Non-profit housing developers can apply for contributions when they buy land and properties and build and renovate apartments.

The city council put the corresponding ordinance on the housing fund into effect on January 1, 2025, as it announced on Wednesday. The contributions from the fund enable lower rents despite rising prices for land or properties, as the city council further writes in the communication. They are intended to create additional affordable living space.

Those eligible to contribute include private housing foundations and cooperatives, non-profit stock corporations, associations as well as the municipal housing foundations and the city of Zurich as the provider of municipal housing construction.

The city of Zurich voters approved the establishment of the housing fund in June 2023 and approved a property loan of 100 million francs and a framework loan of 200 million francs.
