Vance acknowledges that Walz had a “very difficult job” defending Harris in the debate

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) said his opponent, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), had a “very hard job” defending Vice President Kamala Harris during Tuesday’s vice presidential debate.

Former President Donald Trump’s vice president said his goal at the debate was to discuss “substance” with U.S. voters and explain how the country’s current leadership has failed them. When asked if he thought Walz looked nervous at all, Vance said he didn’t notice because he was nervous himself and was focused on what his opponent was saying.

“To be fair to Tim Walz, he had a very difficult job, which was to defend Kamala Harris’ policies,” Vance said in his first post-debate interview on Fox News Hannity. “He does, and look, Kamala Harris did that. Their political failure has made food, housing and energy unaffordable. We simply need a change in this country; We must return to the common sense leadership of Donald Trump. I’m not surprised that Tim couldn’t defend this record. Who could do that?”

Vance added that if he were tasked with defending Harris’ leadership, he would “melt into a puddle” because there is “no way to defend the vice president’s record.”

Regarding Harris, Trump’s running mate claimed that the fact that the vice president mostly avoids the press is “the most scandalous part of her entire campaign,” which she is running “from a basement.” He also said that people running for office must earn their position, which includes going out and talking to voters.

Vance was widely praised for his performance in the vice presidential debate, with commentator Bill O’Reilly arguing that the Ohio senator had accomplished what Trump had failed to do and “made himself a man.” Referring to Walz, O’Reilly said Harris’ running mate performance was “not bad” and joked that he would invite the Minnesota governor to Thanksgiving “but he wouldn’t get dessert.”

CNN’s Abby Phillip also claimed that Vance “was able to throw a bunch of punches” at his opponent. She added that Walz suffered from a “lack of preparation” for the debate and argued that he allowed Vance to dodge some questions.
