Not only refrigerators should now look as pretty as possible on the inside, toilets are also not safe from the romanticization of everyday things: In a post on X, a user shows a video in which a toilet bowl is beautified with flower-shaped scented gel stamps. The video has already been viewed over 36 million times – and is causing people to shake their heads.

“It’s just a waste,” some people write or make fun of how they would empty their bowels on these little flowers. Others defend the idea: “The gel pods are great, they last two weeks and the toilet always smells fresh!” A young mother also says that the flowers help her sons hit the bowl. We have gel stamps available in many retail stores, usually for less than five francs.

Everything has to be photo-worthy

The video comes from #toilettok, a rather niche part of Tiktok, in which users show in over 25 million posts how they clean their toilet particularly efficiently – or in a particularly aesthetically pleasing way, for example with colorful cleaning products. This trend is also controversial because the viral clips waste large amounts of cleaning supplies and some combinations can even lead to toxic gases.

While the gel flowers actually look pretty right after they are attached, this effect is gone after just a few rinses. After just a few days they lose their shape and after a week there are only colorful lumps hanging in the toilet. And: According to various manufacturers, just a single gel flower is enough for good smells.
