The ceremony, attended by family members and friends, took place at the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings in Lower Manhattan.

The newly appointed judges included Judge Nancy Fayed Carrington, a Staten Island resident and former trial attorney who was given the title of criminal court judge.

“Today we proudly announce the appointment of seven exceptional judges, each bringing years of expertise and a deep commitment to upholding public safety and justice,” Adams said. “These distinguished individuals are not only highly qualified, but are committed to ensuring that our legal system serves all New Yorkers with fairness and integrity.”

Carrington is considered the first Muslim judge of Egyptian descent, appointed to the Criminal Court by Mayor Adams.

While working in the District Attorney’s Office, she also served as Assistant Division Chief in the Juvenile Justice Division.

For her undergraduate studies, she attended New York University and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Journalism.

“It was an honor to receive the appointment,” she said. “It is important for the people of New York City to see themselves represented in these courtrooms, and I am so proud to represent my community and all communities on the bench. I am grateful to my family whose love and support helped make this dream a reality.”
