East Bengal FC was surprised by the sudden departure of its former head coach. Carles Cuadrat. The Spanish coach’s decision to resign mid-season has left the club desperately searching for a suitable replacement.

According to East Bengal Executive Committee member Debarata Sarkar, also known as Nitu da, the resignation came like a bolt from the blue and the club was not prepared for this abrupt change.

Speaking to the media, Debarata Sarkar admitted, “It was very unfortunate that Carles left midway. He left suddenly and we weren’t prepared.”

Cuadrat’s unexpected departure has put East Bengal in a difficult position. The team is currently in the middle of the season and finding a suitable replacement coach is crucial to continued success. Sarkar assured fans that the club is doing its utmost to resolve the situation in a timely manner and ensure a smooth transition.

“I still don’t know the names that are being considered as possible successors. We are trying our best to get a new coach if possible,” Sarkar added.

East Bengal FC will face Jamshedpur FC in the third away match and fourth match of the ongoing Indian Super League at the JRD TATA Sports Complex on Saturday evening (October 5).

Earlier, East Bengal announced that they have parted ways with their head coach Carles Cuadrat after a slow start to the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season. East Bengal, who spent heavily on transfers in the summer, have been unconvincing in the ISL so far, losing five games in a row. Cuadrat was therefore under pressure and the Spaniard decided to part ways with the club after the 3-2 defeat against FC Goa on September 27th.

Cuadrat helped end a fruitless 12-year run without a trophy when the red and gold won the Super Cup in January 2024. Afterwards, the club recorded a blockbuster of 10 signings in the summer window, including high-profile names such as Dimitrios Diamantakos and Madih Talal, Anwar Ali and Jeakson Singh, among others. Bino George, the reserve team coach, will take charge of the senior team ahead of their next ISL match against Jamshedpur FC.
