If you want to start next year, buy now for Prime Day

The trend is towards own electricity and continues to grow. We at GameStar Tech have also examined the front and balcony power plants several times and from different perspectives.

In terms of price, there are only a few arguments against mini PV systems and legally it has also become much easier to argue for a balcony power plant to the landlord. So far our conclusion has always been: If you have the opportunity and the price is right, go for it.

Cat says: Buy it if the price is right! The solar panels in the background can even be folded up to save space and mounted flexibly even where rigid panels are difficult to use.

Saving energy made easy

What a balcony power plant brings you

  • Smaller electricity bill: Even when it’s moderately cloudy, the solar panels often generate enough electricity to cover the basic consumption of the router, refrigerator and standby devices – even if you’re not at home.
  • Easy commissioning: The connection using a Schuko plug is as easy as with a toaster, and the solar cables are actually always the same thanks to MC4 plugs.
  • Independence: Rising electricity prices? For those who can at least partially provide for themselves, this appears to be significantly less of a threat to their existence.

Following the rule of supply and demand (and our personal experience), a counter-cyclical purchase can definitely be worthwhile: the dreary autumn with little sun causes many people to postpone the purchase of a balcony power plant until spring and, with luck, the prices fall. A discount campaign on top of that can do the rest.

Good chances for good deals on Amazon Prime Day in October!

Use the sun, reduce your electricity bill

A balcony power plant is easy to install, costs comparatively little and saves noticeable money on your electricity bill, at least during the day and with some sunshine. While the purchase costs were in the four-digit range a few years ago, there are now recommended sets for under 400 euros, and in some cases even for 300 euros.

Two devices that I think should be kept in mind for Prime Day

Ecoflow PowerStream balcony power plant (PowerStream 800 watts + 2x 400W rigid solar panels)

  • Advantages: Expandable with battery storage, a little low PV power, good app control
  • Historical low price: 370 euros
  • Danger: With a saver subscription voucher you can currently get the set on Amazon for 300 euros. You don’t have to wait until Prime Day for a rock-bottom price.

It may also be worth looking at the Ecoflow Powerstream as a standalone product: It is currently priced at over 100 euros, but was already available for 90 euros. The offer may come back on deal days.

Solakon 2000W balcony power plant (Tsun 800W inverter + 4x 500W rigid solar panels)

  • Advantages: High-yield bifacial PV module with 500 watts each, good performance even with cloud cover
  • Typical price: approx. 800 euros
  • Price trend: Already available thanks to the coupon for 700 euros, but an even lower price would still be conceivable for Prime Day

Use solar power at night too: balcony power plant with storage

Balcony power plants with battery storage are a little trickier when it comes to the amortization calculation. The idea of further increasing your self-sufficiency rate and using solar power in the evening hours is very obvious. Especially since a set with 2,000 watts of peak power has to waste the most energy in summer – only 800 watts can be fed in.

The variant with storage is a little (but not that much) more complex to build than a standard balcony power plant. Even if the battery only pays off late, at least financially, it feels very good to use self-generated electricity at night.

Users of a dynamic electricity tariff in particular also benefit from the possibility of being able to bridge expensive hours without noticeable consumption. I myself use a system from Ecoflow, which I am very satisfied with and which I would therefore like to recommend to you here.

Products from Anker, Zendure, Jackery and other manufacturers are not inferior, you decide based on your experience and of course the best offer on Prime Day.

Ecoflow PowerStream balcony power station with Delta2Max power station

  • Consists of: Powerstream inverter, Delta2Max Powerstation 2 kWh LFP, 2x 400W rigid solar panels
  • Advantage: The Delta2Max has 220V outputs so that it can supply devices even in the event of a complete blackout. Full-fledged power station for festivals or outdoor LAN parties.
  • Typical price: approx. 2,100 euros
  • Price trend: Already 168 euros cheaper with a coupon, we expect prices to fall even further

Anker Solix RS40B balcony power plant with solar bank E1600

  • Consists of: MI80 inverter 800W, 2x RS40B solar panels 2x 410W, solar bank E1600 with 1.6 kWh LFP
  • Advantage: Easy to set up kit that includes everything you need to get started
  • Typical price: approx. 1,000 euros
  • Price trend: Already pleasantly cheap thanks to the coupon, I don’t expect a further price drop for Prime Day

Always pay attention to shipping costs, especially for bulky products such as balcony power plants or general PV modules. Prime offers for Amazon subscription customers offer savings potential, as Amazon usually takes care of the shipping – you should look closely at other shops or marketplace retailers.

Sometimes it can be worthwhile to buy individual parts such as inverters and batteries from Amazon and to buy the PV modules from a local dealer so that you can pick them up there with free shipping.
