The “Lower Saxony against anti-Semitism” campaign started in November NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

As of: October 4th, 2024 8:40 p.m

The state of Lower Saxony is launching the “Lower Saxony against anti-Semitism” campaign in November. There is decreasing solidarity with Israel, complains Lower Saxony’s anti-Semitism commissioner Wegner.

According to Gerhard Wegner, the “strategy of reversing the perpetrator-victim relationship” is becoming increasingly successful a year after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th. From the point of view of many people, it is no longer the terror of Hamas that is the starting point of the suffering, but rather the allegedly unjustified military intervention by Israel, according to a statement on Friday. “There has been an enormous increase in anti-Semitic incidents in our country since October 7, 2023,” said Wegner. He is observing the emergence of a “deeply anti-Semitic-anti-humanistic cross-front” between various politically oriented actors.

Anti-Semitism Commissioner: “The country is under existential threat”

According to the emeritus theology professor, one must decide in this situation for clear solidarity with Israel. “The country is existentially threatened.” In addition, Jews in Germany must be protected, as Wegner said. This includes consistent police and legal action against anti-Semitism as well as preventative educational work.
