Jannik Sinner showed a strong performance against Taro Daniel.

Jannik Sinner was in a hurry for his first appearance in the Chinese city with over a million inhabitants. The first set between the South Tyrolean and his opponent Taro Daniel lasted a full 22 minutes. There are no signs of repercussions for the two-time Grand Slam champion three days after the bitter final defeat against Carlos Alcaraz in Beijing.

The world number one dominated the party with the first rally and gave the number 93 in the world tennis rankings no chance to set his own tone. A slightly misdirected volley from Jannik Sinner, which at first glance seemed too long, just barely found its way into the field.

Jannik Sinner remains in control

The second sentence starts better from Taro Daniel’s point of view. The first game belonged to the Japanese, who then again suffered under the strong pressure of his opponents. Jannik Sinner once again converted a break chance into something countable and was able to control the action with an early lead in the second round.

But Taro Daniel now fought his way into the party. The fifth service game of the second set lasted over ten minutes and Daniel was able to successfully save it to the finish after fending off four break points. But that shouldn’t change anything about the outcome of the duel. After 1:19 hour both players met at the net to shake hands.

In the next round, Jannik Sinner can compete with the Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who celebrated a three-set win against Botic van de Zandschulp.
