When it comes to choosing one of the best streaming services for entertainment, there are many great options and one of the best is Peacock. Peacock is NBCUniversal’s answer to the question of what to watch next, offering thousands of hours of film and television with a mix of older favorites and new original programming. It was first released in 2020 and is intended to compete with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Paramount Plus and other streaming giants.

Peacock has made a splash since its launch with 34 million subscribers in 2024. That’s easy to understand, too, as there are competitive prices, a library with more than 80,000 hours of content, and access to tons of live sporting events. There’s a lot to love here, and even leaving the service is a breeze if you wish. But before you decide on a Peacock subscription, we’re here to help you evaluate whether it’s the right choice for you.

How much does Peacock cost?

Peacock Premium is now the lowest tier as the free option is no longer available. Even with Peacock Premium, you still have to watch ads. Still, for a small fee of $8 per month, you can access an extensive library of content including movies, TV shows, live sports (including Premier League soccer), Spanish-language Telemundo series, and more.

If you want to enjoy the same content without ads, you can opt for the second tier, Peacock Premium Plus, which costs $14 monthly. The difference between the two tiers is that with Peacock Premium Plus, advertising is mostly eliminated, with the exception of some events (e.g. sporting events) where advertising may be shown due to pre-existing agreements.

Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus are discounted when paid annually and are currently $80 and $140, respectively. There are also student offers.

Over the years, some wireless companies have offered special connections with Peacock that tend to lower the annual price. These change frequently. Please check with your provider before subscribing to Peacock.

What do you need to watch Peacock?

Peacock can be accessed across various platforms. A web browser is a good place to start. Peacock is compatible with the popular browsers Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Safari. Access is also possible on Android and Apple iPhones and iPads. PlayStation and Xbox users can find Peacock on their consoles. Peacock works with select smart TVs including Samsung, Vizio, LG and Hisense.

Peacock is also available on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon, Google TV and Chromecast. Access is available through select Cox, Spectrum and Xfinity cable boxes. Additionally, it is available via Meta VR for Meta Quest and Meta Quest Pro.

One advantage of the Universal Film Library is that Peacock has a large selection of films and some classic titles right from the start. There is also a selection of films from other studios. However, the titles of the available films are constantly changing.

Does Peacock include 4K streaming?

Peacock offers a limited selection of 4K content to its Premium and Premium Plus subscribers. However, the 4K library is relatively small and can only be streamed on certain platforms. You can identify the available 4K content by looking for the 4K UHD logo in the information section of the content.

What are Peacock’s optimal internet speeds?

According to Peacock, an internet speed of at least 3 Mbps is sufficient to use Peacock’s services without interruption. However, to enjoy high-quality live events and premium content in ultra-high definition, it is recommended that your Wi-Fi or 4G/5G/LTE speed is at least 8 Mbps.
