The Home Office has been hit with a petition to cancel the Chris Brown SA concert

The Home Office has been hit with a petition to cancel the Chris Brown SA concert

Interior Minister Leon Schreiber has been addressed in a petition to stop Chris Brown from entering South Africa. The petition was submitted by gender-based violence (GBV) organization Women For Change.

The US singer, who was convicted of domestic violence and has a long criminal history, will perform in two concerts in Johannesburg on December 14th and 15th.

His appearance will come just days after the government’s 16-day activism campaign to end gender-based violence.

Meanwhile, Investigation Discovery will air a documentary about Chris Brown’s “abuse story” later this month.

CHRIS BROWN PETITION GAINS POWER AMONG SOLD OUT CONCERTS

As thousands of South Africans prepare to attend Chris Brown’s concerts in December, gender activists Women For Change are urging authorities to intervene.

Due to his criminal past, the singer was previously banned from entering Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

A Change.Org petition – which has garnered over 8,000 signatures – was addressed to Interior Minister Leon Schreiber. In their statement, Women For Change calls on the ministry to revoke Chris Brown’s visa and prevent him from performing in South Africa.

It said: “How can we, as a nation committed to combating gender-based violence, justify giving a platform to someone with a known history of abuse?” It is imperative that we send the message that South Africa stands with survivors , not the perpetrator.”

At large concerts, call for the show to be canceled

The GBV organization is also calling on the organizers of Big Concerts to cancel the concerts.

Spokesman Bulelwa Adonis told Newzroom Afrika: “Despite being a committed entertainer, we are still the rape capital of the world.” We cannot practice selective activism, we do not support or tolerate violent people.

Should Chris Brown be banned from entering South Africa because of his criminal past? Many GBV activists believe this.

We shouldn’t give anyone access to our country just because they’re on people’s playlists and people love them.

“That’s more important than ‘Let’s give people what they want.'” That’s: “Let’s address the elephant in the room, and that is gender-based violence.”

INTERNAL AFFAIRS MOTHER STAYS ON PETITION

While Women For Change has undoubtedly come under fire for their “unpopular opinions” about Chris Brown, some social media users are also demanding answers from the authorities.

The South African contacted the Home Office for an official response to both the concerns and the petition against Chris Brown. This article will be updated as it arrives.
