After failing to win in three games prior to last week’s 3-2 win over Udinese, the improving Inter side continued to build on Tuesday night as they beat Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

After the Nerazzurri’s late defeat against AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina, captain Lautaro Martinez First, he ended a goalless streak of five league games and helped Udine achieve the maximum number of points. He then came on as a substitute and scored a goal in a 4-0 win against the Serbian champions.

Inter are now unbeaten in 10 home games in Europe’s top club competition – their best such run since beating Bayern Munich in the 2010 final – but they still trail Serie A leaders Napoli the domestic rankings.

Although they have yet to concede a goal in the Champions League, Simone InzaghiManchester United’s men have conceded two goals in each of their last two league games and have already conceded multiple goals three times this season – more than they did in the entire first half of the 2023-24 season.

En route to the title, Inter were strong defensively and relentless in attack, so Inzaghi will want to rediscover that mentality with his predecessor sooner rather than later Antonio Conte overcame an early challenge with his new Napoli team.

After the defeat against Milan ended a 17-game unbeaten streak at home in Serie A, the current Inter coach now wants to start a new streak by defeating Conte’s former pal.

Paolo Vanoli played a role as an assistant in Inter’s 2021 Scudetto win, but he now holds the top job at Torino after leading Venezia to the top flight last season.

Under his leadership, Toro have won three of their first six games in Serie A and can now look to win four of seven games for the first time since 2015.

Last month, a 3-2 away win over Hellas Verona briefly secured them top spot, capping a good start to Vanoli’s time in Turin. but just a few days later they were knocked out of the cup by Empoli and subsequently beaten at home in the league.

Lazio previously led by two goals Che Adams backed down last weekend, but the Biancocelesti then struck again, which means Saul CocoThe injury-time strike was practically a consolation.

However, Torino are still unbeaten away from home this season, which would certainly be cause for optimism had they not lost all of their last five games against Inter at the San Siro.

Team news

Midfield maestro Nicolo Barella will again be missing from Inter’s starting XI this weekend, with the Italian star sidelined until after the international break due to a hamstring injury sustained in last month’s derby defeat.

Either Piotr Zielinski or Davide Frattesi will be present in the hosts’ engine room, while Simone Inzaghi will rotate his resources in attack.

Mehdi Taremi And Marko Arnautovic were a couple on Tuesday, but the first choice duo Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez could be back in the lineup against Torino.

Although the latter recently ended a goal drought in Serie A, he has not scored at home in Italy’s top flight since February and has failed to score in seven league games since then – his second-worst run to date.

In the meantime, the man should be tasked with stopping Inter’s attack Vanja Milinkovic-Savicwho is expected to recover after missing Torino’s 3-2 loss to Lazio with a knee injury. According to xG data, the Serbian goalkeeper has prevented more goals than anyone else in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

That would work Perr Schuurs (ACL) is the only notable absentee of the guests, so that Paolo Vanoli has almost the full selection.

Once again, Antonio Sanabria and Che Adams will vie to become Toro’s captain Duvan Zapata in front while the Croatian is in front Nikola Vlasic is ready for a place on the bench.

Possible Inter Milan starting lineup:
Summer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez

Turin possible starting lineup:
Milinkovic Savic; Walukiewicz, Coco, Masina; Lazaro, Ilic, Tameze, Ricci, Sosa; Adams, Zapata

We say: Inter Milan – Turin 2:1

Torino have lost their last four Serie A games against Inter without scoring a single goal, but their form this season suggests they can at least improve on that dismal trend.

The champions have started their title defense unconvincingly, but Toro is starting to leak goals and could be caught out more than once.
