There are a few rules in MMA, let’s start with the basics: A fight lasts three rounds of five minutes each (title fights five rounds of five minutes each) and can be ended early by a KO, a TKO or the submission of one of the fighters.

In order to force such an end, a variety of fighting techniques such as grappling, kicks and punches are permitted in mixed martial arts, although there are also restrictions. For example, fighters are not allowed to headbutt their opponents, bite them, or attack sensitive areas such as the eyes, mouth, nose or ears. Hits on the back of the head or throat are also prohibited.

There are also restrictions when it comes to clothing: all fighters must compete in shorts, shoes or tops are prohibited. Abdominal protectors and mouth guards are mandatory.
