Not an easy start for the MotoGP stars in their Saturday at Motegi: It had rained heavily overnight at times. By the time of the second free practice session of the premier class, the track was almost completely dry, but some damp spots still pose a danger. Francesco Bagnaia coped best with these conditions.

The result: Bagnaia was the fastest man in 1:44.569 minutes ahead of Pedro Acosta, who only lost 17 thousandths of a second. Maverick Vinales was third, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio and Friday leader Brad Binder. Marco Bezzecchi took P6. Jorge Martin ended up in seventh place, just ahead of Marc Marquez. Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli completed the top ten.

Falls, defects & incidents: A few minutes before the end of the session, Johann Zarco flew violently in the fast turn six. He escaped quickly, but his Honda was completely destroyed. It was the only crash in the second free practice session of MotoGP.

Jorge Martin came off the track in turn 3 and had to hit the gravel trap, but was able to avoid a crash.

The weather: After rain overnight in Motegi, a dry line had already developed in Moto2 training on Saturday morning and so the entire MotoGP field started straight away with slicks in FP2. However, caution was advised as there were numerous wet spots lurking around the route. The outside temperature was 20 degrees, 23 degrees on the asphalt.
