Winterthur – GC 1:0

After five defeats in a row, Winterthur achieved its second win of the season. Antoine Baroan scores the home team a 1-0 win against the Grasshoppers.

The 24-year-old Frenchman came on as a substitute in the 81st minute and completed a counterattack six minutes later with a well-placed low shot. It was Baroan’s first goal in the 20th game for Winterthur – and a very important one. Because GC could no longer find an answer to this late setback. This means that there was a winner in the 13th meeting between the two teams, and for the eighth time it was Winterthur.

The FCW last celebrated a championship victory on July 20th at the season opener against St. Gallen. Until the duel with the Grasshoppers, a point had only been added in the 0-0 draw against Yverdon. Now the hosts celebrated the next one, thanks to which they gave up the last place in the table to champions YB, at least until Sunday.

However, the Grasshoppers saw their upward trend abruptly stopped. They recently showed appealing performances with victories in Bern and the Cup in Thun as well as a draw against Servette. In Winterthur, coach Marco Schällibaum’s team had more of the game, but hardly had any chances.

Lucerne – Lausanne 2:2

FC Luzern avoided their second defeat thanks to a late goal. Levin Winkler was the celebrated man in the 2-2 draw against Lausanne-Sport.

The 21-year-old came into the game in the 24th minute for Tyron Owusu, who was the same age. At this point, Lucerne were 2-0 down and had missed a penalty. After Donat Rrudhani’s goal, it was Winkler who scored the celebrated equalizer for the hosts in the 81st minute. After a header assist, he was there with his toe and secured a point for the leader.

The Lausanne team came very close to their first away win of the season thanks to a strong performance against the Super League leaders. In the 8th minute, Alban Ajdini took advantage of a nice assist from ex-Luzerner Teddy Okou, and ten minutes later Alvyn Sanches followed up with a nice relay of the ball. The guests also had the better chances in the second half, with Sanches failing to hit the post in the 61st minute.

Thanks to Winkler’s late goal, the Central Swiss team remained unbeaten for the eighth time in a row. Coach Mario Frick’s team suffered their only championship defeat so far at the start of the season, 1:2 against Servette. Since then, the FCL has had five wins and three draws.

Sion – Yverdon 1:1

FC Sion dominated the game in the home game against Yverdon, but was once again harmless offensively for a long time. That’s why the Valaisians have to start with a 1-1 draw.

Sion threatens to remain without a goal for the third time in a row. In the 81st minute, substitute Dejan Sorgic broke up the home team. His hit with his backheel secured the Valaisians a hard-fought but deserved point. Because in the first Super League duel with Yverdon she dominated the game for long stretches.

Ilyas Chouaref should have given the hosts the lead in the 7th minute, but his header hit the inside of the post and was then cleared off the line. The game then sputtered along before Boris Cespedes gave the guests the lead shortly before half-time. He pulled back from around 20 meters away and the ball landed in the net with a slight deflection.

In the second half, the guests tried to hold on to their first away win with a solid defensive performance. But Sorgic put a stop to that. Nevertheless, the Sion team, who had started the season furiously with three wins from the first four rounds, were only partially satisfied: they have been waiting for a success for five games.
