Boeing received unsafe parts for 787 Dreamliner from two Italian companies, authorities launch investigation – Airlines/Aviation News

Two Italian aerospace companies and seven people are under investigation for allegedly supplying Leonardo SpA with non-compliant aerospace components used in the production of certain parts of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Bloomberg reported on Saturday, citing Italian prosecutors.

The company, based in Brindisi in southern Italy, is accused of using pure titanium instead of the required titanium alloys to produce the aircraft’s structural components. They also reportedly used inferior aluminum alloys.

According to Ansa, this practice allegedly led to significantly reduced static and dielectric strength and thus compromised transport safety.

The government will also notify a data protection regulator who will impose a penalty of up to Rs 250 crore on the company in case of data breaches and non-compliance with provisions of the Act.
