Young people barricade themselves in the bar

Young people barricade themselves in the bar

Leipzig – The willingness to use violence within the Leipziger Hooligan scenes seem to be getting worse and worse. This became clear both on Saturday evening and on Sunday morning with attacks, some of which were brutal.

It is no secret that there are often clashes between the camps of the rival clubs Chemie and Lok Leipzig in and near the stadiums on match days.

But the fact that violent Lok fans parade through the city center on the evening before the derby in order to specifically seek tension with opposing supporters represents, according to the police, a completely “new quality”.

Accordingly, three teenagers aged 17 and 18 were sitting in front of a bar on Kleine Fleischergasse around 10 p.m. on Saturday when they were caught up in a conversation by an unknown group.

The strange men are said to have tried to tease out the trio’s fan affiliation by asking questions – they asked about the whereabouts of “locomotive fascists”.

When one of the young people fell into the trap and finally identified himself as “Leutzscher” (district of Chemie Leipzig), everything happened very quickly: the unknown people turned out to be locomotive hools and gave the 17-year-old a blow.

Not far from the Bruno Plache Stadium on the Völki there was a crash between the two fan camps on Sunday. The police had to intervene here too.

The teenagers had the presence of mind to barricade themselves in the bar, which was quickly surrounded by around 30 aggressive football fans.

Fortunately, the police had already gotten wind of the violent group in the city center before the incident, so the officers were quickly on the scene after alerting the young people from the restaurant.

According to police spokeswoman Susanne Lübcke, the officers came across several suspects in the city center, all of whose personal details were recorded. She is now being investigated for breach of the peace.

But the chemistry fans didn’t cover themselves with glory at the weekend either: According to the police, several fans of the Leutzscher club are said to have attacked a car presumably occupied by locomotive supporters near the Völkerschlachtdenkmal on Sunday morning.

According to initial findings, no one was injured, but the vehicle sustained some damage. As TAG24 learned from the scene, more than 60 suspicious people were surrounded by the police, identified and ultimately all taken into custody.
