Alabama, Vols fall in Week 7 in college football rankings

Alabama, Vols fall in Week 7 in college football rankings

There’s chaos in the college football rankings in Week 7, and after an active weekend full of upsets that saw four of the 10 seemingly best teams in the country suffer losses, there’s plenty of movement in the updated Coaches’ Poll top 25 rankings.

The coaches weren’t impressed enough by Alabama’s win over Georgia last week to move the Crimson Tide to No. 1, and now Bama’s shocking loss to unranked Vanderbilt has given the team even more confidence heading into this week’s rankings lost.

Alabama’s stunning 40-35 loss on Saturday ended the Commodores’ 60-game losing streak against top-five opponents and dealt an early blow to the Tide’s playoff hopes, as the selection committee will view that result with a critical eye going forward.

But they weren’t the only ones in the SEC to suffer a surprising loss along the way: Tennessee couldn’t do enough to get past unranked Arkansas as the No. 4 ranked team, and Missouri was from Texas A&M and clearly fell out of the top 10.

Some Big Ten teams also suffered defeat: Michigan lost its second game of the season on the road to Washington, and USC fell 2-1 in conference play after failing to stop unranked Minnesota on the road.

Let’s take a deep breath, clear everything up and look at the updated Top 25 college football rankings for Week 7, as voted by the coaches.
