Tom Selleck has expressed his frustration over the cancellation of his long-running police drama Blue Bloods after 14 seasons on the air.

Late last year, it was announced that the CBS drama, which follows members of the fictional Irish Catholic Reagan family, was coming to an end after 14 years, despite averaging nine to 14 million viewers per episode.

At the time, Tom, 79, made no secret of his disappointment at the decision, telling TV Insider in January: “CBS is going to find that a lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to this.”

“The show is more popular than ever, I think.” [numbers] will increase with interest this year. We definitely won’t run out of ideas.’

His co-stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynihan shared this opinion, leading to the trio asking the network to reconsider their decision. Despite their pleas, show executives confirmed that Part B of Season 14 will end in December.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement: “All shows must come to an end.” It is important to us to refresh the schedule. “We will finish the show in December.”

Now, before the final episodes of the series hit theaters, Tom sat down with TV Insider to reveal what he thinks of the situation. He admitted it will take him a “long time” to get over the end of the show in which he plays New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” he said. “During these last eight shows, I didn’t want to talk about the end of Blue Bloods, but rather the fact that it’s still a huge success.”

He went on to say he wouldn’t “turn into a bitter old guy” and said he would continue to talk about the series’ success.

“I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you said to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst timeslot you have, and that will guarantee you the next one on Friday night.’ Winning 15 days “years” would be almost impossible to believe.’

Blue Bloods aired predominantly at 10 p.m. on CBS and remains one of television’s most popular dramas.

“I’m frustrated that the show has always been taken for granted because it worked from the start.” How do I feel? “It’s going to take a long time to sort this all out,” Tom said.

Tom and his co-stars aren’t the only ones upset about the cancellation. Ahead of the series’ final episodes, fans went to X to share their feelings.

“What’s wrong with CBS!!!!” Tech_Snobi7 wrote. Alan FJr added: “Definitely worrying news.” The best TV drama ever broadcast. It never lost steam.’

Another fan, MrNobod11768580, spoke about how much the cancellation “hurts”: “I’m kind of a late bloomer with the Blue Bloods.” But it’s very good television. Captivating stories. a family that sometimes fights with each other but always comes together in times of danger. “That and the previous cancellation of NCIS: Los Angeles hurt me the most.”

While CBS claims the show was canceled because they needed to “update” the schedule, Deadline has reported that it’s more likely that it will come to an end “due to the financial strain” on the network.

The final eight episodes of “Blue Bloods” will air on CBS in America from October 18th. The first ten seasons can also be streamed on Paramount+.
