Titans seek help as they sit out Week 5

The bad news for the Tennessee Titans is the fact that they have a record of 1-3, making them one of six teams in the AFC under .500 after four games. The good news is that the club is coming off a 31-12 win over the Miami Dolphins in the off week and is actually not in the basement of the division yet. When the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars take the field on Sunday, it will be interesting to see how each team performs and whether the Titans ultimately benefit from the results.

There’s a big clash between first-place teams in the Lone Star State on Sunday as the Texans host the Bills. Both teams have a record of 3:1, but both showed a certain vulnerability. That’s certainly true for DeMeco Ryans’ club. Houston’s three wins over the Colts, Bears and Jaguars combined for 12 points. On the other hand, the Texans were in the Twin Cities in Week 3 and the Vikings made a statement by defeating the defending AFC South champions 34-7. It’s safe to say Ryans’ team hasn’t come that far yet.

Meanwhile, Buffalo has had no trouble putting up points in its first three games this year. They defeated the Cardinals, Dolphins and Jaguars by a combined score of 112-48. Then came last Sunday’s clash with the Ravens, and Sean McDermott’s club wasn’t ready for that prime-time showdown. The Bills’ defense had no answer for workhorse Derrick Henry and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in a 35-10 loss. Although McDermott’s team comes into this match a little under the weather, they are certainly capable of picking up a win here.

Meanwhile, Indianapolis has won its last two games after a winless start. They head south to face the league’s only winless team in Jacksonville. Shane Steichen’s squad will be without running back Jonathan Taylor. Quarterback Anthony Richardson remains questionable, so veteran Joe Flacco could make his first start in 2024. He had a solid performance in last week’s relief appearance against the Steelers.

The Colts want to put an end to a bizarre skid. Including a game in London eight years ago, Indianapolis has lost nine straight road games in a streak that dates back to ’16. A loss to the Jaguars would reduce Steichen’s team to 2-3, including an 0-2 mark in the division.

The Texans are the only AFC South team not playing one of its division rivals this season, and two of their three losses have come against NFC clubs. That changes in Week 6 when they return to the field and host the Colts. All in all, Callahan and Co. will have to wait and see.
