Police are searching for a possible armed person who could be involved in the fatal shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police are searching for a possible armed person of interest following a fatal shooting in South Nashville.

MNPD said 19-year-old Malik Turrentine is wanted for questioning in the shooting, which occurred outside the 4:13 Strong housing program on Foster Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

According to MNPD spokesman Don Aaron, a fight broke out between residents of the program on Saturday. “Police believe one of the residents was asked to leave yesterday, returned today and was told he would no longer be participating in the program,” Aaron said.

The shooting reportedly occurred when the resident was asked to leave the building. A man was killed.

Aaron said police believe the victim is the father of a resident of the 4:13 program. They are working to identify his next of kin.

Turrentine fled the scene around the time of the shooting.

The shooter’s identity has not been confirmed at this time, Aaron said.

A helicopter, officers and soldiers were searching for Turrentine in the immediate area at the time of the news conference, but police said they had found no sign of him so far. The property is expansive and consists of several buildings and vacation homes, Aaron said.

Police don’t believe he is anywhere near the crime scene but are still searching.

“Turrentine may be armed,” MNPD said. Anyone who sees him should call 911 or 615-742-7463.

This is a developing story.
