FC Barcelona will play at the Camp Nou again at the end of the year

Construction work on Camp Nou is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026 and FC Barcelona’s 105,000-seat stadium will be the largest in Europe. On Monday, the club had good news for its fans: the Catalans hope that, despite the renovation, they will play at the Camp Nou again this year.

FC Barcelona has not played its home games at the legendary Camp Nou for more than a year. Due to renovation work, the Catalans have been playing in the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona since the 2023/24 season. But that should soon come to an end: On Monday, the club announced that it would like to return to the Camp Nou towards the end of 2024.

The stadium will initially be used with an improved seating capacity of 62,000. When construction work is completed in the summer of 2026, as planned by the “Espai Barca” project, the Blaugrana home ground will be the largest football stadium in Europe with 105,000 seats.

Barca have been very successful at home this season

The renovation of the Camp Nou began in June 2023, but everything is not always smooth. Licensing complications and complaints about working conditions temporarily delayed the conversion. Therefore, the contract for the use of the Olympic Stadium was extended “as a precaution until March 31, 2025”.

But now it looks as if Barca could return to their own living room much sooner. The unfamiliar stadium definitely didn’t hurt the start under Hansi Flick. Barcelona have achieved three wins in their three previous home games in La Liga. The club also swept the Young Boys Bern out of the Olympic Stadium 5-0.
