Starting your first semester at the University of Siegen – Westphalia-Lippe – News

It’s bustling again on the campus of the University of Siegen. The winter semester has been running since Monday morning and for around 2,200 students in Siegen it is also the first semester at the university.

In the spring, most of them were still at school, but now they have looked for a place in the auditorium. “We will die here”new members of the university“, as director Stefanie Reese addressed the young students during her speech.

Why University of Siegen?

Sarah Kiefer from Freiburg is also among them. The 20-year-old is studying psychology. You chose Siegen as a place to study because the rents in the city are still affordable. “Plus, it’s a family atmosphere here. My course is still relatively new at the university and that’s why everyone is very committed.

She raves about her student council’s introductory program last week and doesn’t regret that she decided against a place to study in Hamburg.

Market of Opportunities: Information for the Newcomers

After the official welcome, the newcomers stroll across the “Market of Opportunities” in the foyer of the Audimax. Information stands about university life are lined up here. From A for AStathe student representation, the equal opportunities office and the international office to Z wie ZeDasthe Center for Academic Writing.

“Here they write their own history, make friends and learn not only academic things, but also life lessons.”

Laurenz Stellberg comes from Meinerzhagen and is one of those who made a last-minute decision: just last week he chose Business Administration registered in Siegen, today he is there for the first time. He likes that there are a lot of young people here. It is large and impressive compared to his old school. He’s looking forward to what’s to come. “I’m alone here at the moment. But I think I’ll definitely get a connection soon. I’m motivated.” Why is he in Siegen? Because being here NC enough, he says and laughs.

Made quick acquaintances

Ihssan Nassih, Maren Heuwes and Amina Sahi have already met each other and are excited to see what Siegen has to offer them. They come from Cologne, Lindlar and Wuppertal. When it comes to the leisure program in Siegen, they are still a bit skeptical. Word of mouth from friends and family brought her to study in Siegen: “The professors should be approachable and nice. It is small and therefore personal.

“We are really looking forward to seeing you” are Rector Stefanie Reese’s last words in her speech – and it seems to be mutual: the students are proud, interested and full of anticipation for what is to come.
