Local reporter identified as woman injured in Lakewood shooting

LAKEWOOD, Ohio – Lakewood police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a woman injured Monday morning.

According to authorities, officers responded just before 8 a.m. on Chase Avenue between Merl Avenue and Clifton Boulevard to a report of an argument between two people.

On the way, the officers told the control center that they had probably heard shots. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman on the sidewalk below. The man was dead and the woman was seriously injured by at least one shot. A weapon was found nearby. Police believe they knew each other.

The woman was treated at the scene by officers and members of the Lakewood Fire Department and then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said. Her current condition is unknown.

According to Cleveland 19 News, the woman is one of the station’s reporters, Winnie Dortch. “The 19 News staff mourns the loss of Winnie and her family. We wish her a speedy and full recovery,” the broadcaster said on its website.
