The evidence for the world’s first smartwatch with a microLED display is increasing, as Garmin is listing the Fenix 8 microLED again, for the first time together with the Tactix 8, which is only available with an AMOLED display but in two sizes should.

After Garmin had already listed a Fenix 8 Pro and a Fenix 8 microLED in an app in September, the microLED model is now appearing again. As Gadgets & Wearables reports, the new model has been added to a watch face compatibility list that developers will see if they want to publish a watch face in the Garmin Connect IQ store.

The fact that the smartwatch is already listed in several publicly accessible directories suggests that the launch is imminent. Garmin has already signed a contract with Vuzix, the supplier of the microLED panels that will be destined for the flagship smartwatch. The Garmin Fenix 8 could become the world’s first smartwatch equipped with a microLED display. Compared to OLED, the screen technology promises much higher brightness with lower power consumption and a longer lifespan without burn-in problems, but the production costs are significantly higher.

At the same time, Garmin is also listing for the first time the successor to the Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition (approx. 918 euros on Amazon), which will be offered with a diameter of 47 millimeters or 51 millimeters – the Tactix 7 was only available as a larger 51 millimeter model. The Tactix series is characterized by a number of “tactical” features, from an integrated LED flashlight to a mode that ensures the readability of the display with a night vision device to a kill switch that deletes all data from the smartwatch at the push of a button . It is not yet known what new features the Tactix 8 will offer apart from the smaller model.
