Utica police are charging a local man with the theft of $14,000 worth of copper wire


UTICA, NY – A 28-year-old employee at the Oneida County Water Pollution Control Plant has been charged with grand larceny after stealing nearly $14,000 worth of copper wire, according to Utica police.

After the theft was reported, officers were dispatched to the plant on September 20, 2024. Plant employees had contacted local recycling centers and discovered that an individual had repeatedly scrapped the same type of stolen wire. Further investigation revealed that the person responsible for scrapping the cable was an employee of the plant.

The thefts were also captured on surveillance footage. The suspect, identified as Harold Thomas of Clinton, surrendered to Utica Police investigators on October 4, 2024. He was charged with third-degree grand larceny.

The investigation is ongoing.

  • Pasadena man arrested after hatchet attack and handgun violation

    PASADENA, Maryland – A 68-year-old Pasadena man was arrested after an argument with a neighbor that escalated into a brutal attack, according to Anne Arundel County police. The incident occurred on the morning of October 4, 2024 in the 1400 block of Stoney Point Way.

    Officers responded to the scene around 10:55 a.m. after receiving reports of a confrontation between two neighbors. The argument, which stemmed from an earlier disagreement, took a physical turn when the suspect, identified as James Russell Gulley, attacked the 31-year-old victim with a hatchet. The victim was able to disarm Gulley before police arrived.

    When they arrested Gulley at his apartment, officers discovered a .22 caliber Jennings semi-automatic pistol in his possession. Police determined that Gulley was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. The victim refused medical attention at the scene.

  • Teenage girl among two injured in Baltimore shooting

    Baltimore, Maryland – Two people were injured in a shooting in North County.

    On October 5, at approximately 10:54 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3800 block of Old York Road. Upon arrival, they found a 48-year-old male victim and a 19-year-old female victim, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

    A dog was also found injured in the shooting.
