Police search for truck after vehicle was rammed and shot at in North York

Toronto police are searching for a pickup truck after it apparently rammed a vehicle and fired shots at it on a busy street Monday, leading to a rollover and then another shooting.

service inspector Brian Maslowski said officers were called to Yonge Street and Empress Avenue at 10:45 a.m. for a report of a shooting

Maslowski said the incident initially began at Willowdale and Cummer avenues, where police believe a black Dodge Ram pickup truck rear-ended a Kia passenger car

Police believe the pickup then followed the Kia to the intersection of Willowdale Avenue and Bishop Avenue. At that point, they say, someone in the truck shot at the Kia.

The Kia then traveled south on Yonge Street toward Empress Avenue, crashed and rolled over.

Police said the pickup truck followed the car to that intersection and someone inside got out and shot the Kia again, Maslowski said.

The pickup fled south on Yonge Street.

“This is a complex investigation,” he said. “Officers are at multiple crime scenes. They collect evidence and talk to witnesses.”

According to police, a man and a woman who were traveling in the Kia were injured by the rollover and not by gunfire. Both are in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the pickup truck had a broken windshield and significant damage to the front end.

Anyone who has relevant video or witnessed anything is urged to contact police.

Finch Avenue is closed from Yonge Street to Kenneth Avenue, while Yonge Street is closed from Empress Avenue to Elmwood Avenue.
