Daniil Medvedev shows obscene gesture during victory in Shanghai

Russian tennis professional Daniil Medvedev made more than just sporting headlines during his recent appearance at the Masters tournament in Shanghai.

In addition to a hard-fought victory against Matteo Arnaldi, Medvedev attracted attention with a provocative gesture. These shocked the audience and the tournament management alike.

Although he won the game against Arnaldi, the 28-year-old Russian struggled throughout the match. His performance was not at the level we are used to from him – many mistakes characterized his game. But instead of questioning his own performance, Medvedev found another culprit: the tennis balls.

In his opinion, these were of inferior quality and his game was significantly affected. This frustration finally erupted in an obscene gesture: after about an hour of play, he picked up a ball. And symbolically wiped his ass before sending him off the pitch.

Of course, this action did not go unnoticed. The Russian was given two warnings and even lost a point in the heated game due to further mistakes. Despite these setbacks, Medvedev managed to defeat his Italian opponents in three sets.

You might think that after this victory the weeks would be smoother – but that’s far from the case. After the match, the Russian continued to express his frustration: “They chose those who create power out of nothing,” he criticized.

And to further express his criticism, Medvedev wrote on a disc in front of the cameras: “Nice Balls” – another provocation towards the tournament organizers.
