Police, city and science are now fighting together against criminals!

In the future, the Saxon Police University, the town hall and the Dresden police will officially cooperate with each other – against the crooks.

Dresden – More Science instead of persecution: yesterday, Monday, they decided Dresden Police, the town hall and the university Saxon police to cooperate together in the future. They’ve been doing this for a long time, but now they’re doing it officially.

“The crooks are getting smarter,” says Dresden’s mayor Jan Donhauser (55, CDU). “Unfortunately!”

And that is why science should now be better integrated into the fight against crime. “Not just to tinker with the effects, but to get to the root of the problem,” says Dresden Police Chief Lutz Rodig (61).

This has already borne fruit at Soko Iuventus, whose work was also supported by the Saxon Institute for Police and Security Research (SIPS). “We haven’t been able to reduce the problem to zero, but it has reduced significantly,” said the president.

The Soko deals with attacks by groups of teenagers on their peers.

“This is currently the thickest board we have to drill,” said Mayor Donhauser

Other studies are already available: “Vanovia asked us in 2024,” says criminologist and SIPS director Marcel Schöne (48). “We went to the quarters with the students.” We looked at the living situation in Gorbitz, the southern suburb and Prohlis.

“The main problem is segregation.” Lack of space, a high proportion of migrants, a surplus of men and low income are concentrated in the neighborhoods due to the rental price situation. Mayor Donhauser announces that he will also raise the issue of housing in the Municipal Preventive Council. “This is currently the thickest board we have to drill,” he says.
