Haryana election result 2024: How Congress’s Bhupinder Hooda reacted to the shocking turn of events | Regard

Congress MP Bhupinder Hooda, who was hoping to become Haryana’s chief minister again, appeared dejected on Tuesday morning after the BJP’s surprise U-turn to take the lead in the state. Exit polls had predicted that the Congress would win the elections and early trends showed the party winning an absolute majority within hours.

But soon the tide turned and the BJP was ahead with over 50 seats. This came as a big shock to Hooda, who was watching the results from the Congress poll office in Rohtak.

However, he was at least verbally confident that he would be able to form a government. “The Congress will form a government in the state. Only two or three rounds of counting have been completed. We are seeing reports of Congress getting a majority,” he told reporters.

Hooda, the Congress candidate in Rohtak’s Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency, has built a steady lead of over 16,000 votes.

When asked if his party needed support to form the government, Hooda said the Congress would form the government itself. “The thanks go to Rahul Gandhi ji, Mallikarjun Kharge ji, Priyanka Gandhi ji and other leaders,” he said.

At the AICC office in Delhi, the initial excitement also seemed to have subsided. Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh also told reporters that the game is not over yet. “There is no need to be discouraged. Mind games are played. We will not deter, there is no need to be discouraged. We will get the mandate. Congress will form the government,” Ramesh added.

The mood changed in Haryana too as BJP workers started celebrating at the party office in Ambala while monitoring the counting trends.
