New album breaks record in England

Coldplay’s Moon Music is the fastest-selling British album by a British act in 2024.

The group – made up of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion – sold more than 160,000 copies of their new album in 72 hours, marking the biggest week for a British act on the Official UK Albums Chart since 2021. At that time, Adele’s album ’30’ debuted at number one with 261,000 chart units. If ‘Moon Music’ continues its impressive numbers, it will be Coldplay’s 10th consecutive number one studio album in the UK.

Taylor Swift sold 270,000 copies of her album “The Tortured Poets Department” earlier this year, setting the record for the fastest-selling album of 2024 so far. But “Moon Music” seems well on its way to defeating it. Coldplay’s last album was their 10th studio album, and they only plan on making 12 records before hanging up the mic. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 recently, Chris said: “We’re only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real.” Yes. I promise it. Because less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be more! It’s really important that we have that limit. There are only seven Harry Potters. There are only 12 1/2 Beatles albums. The same goes for Bob Marley, also for all our heroes. Also, this limit means that the quality control is so high at the moment, it’s almost impossible for a song to make it, which is great. And where we could do better, we try to improve.”
