Football: Sixth loss – German national team becomes B selection

National coach Julian Nagelsmann will cut half the starting eleven for the upcoming Nations League games after the next loss. David Raum also has to miss the group games this Friday (8.45 p.m./RTL) in Bosnia-Herzegovina and three days later in Munich against the Netherlands with an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old from Leipzig has left the DFB headquarters in Herzogenaurach, as the association announced. An examination in Leipzig revealed that the full-back suffered an ankle ligament injury during the 1-0 win in Heidenheim on Sunday. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday morning. This means that there is not only a lack of space for national coach Nagelsmann’s DFB selection, but also for his club after the international break “until further notice”.

Nagelsmann nominated Robin Gosens from AC Fiorentina to replace Raum, who was most recently the first choice as left full-back. The 30-year-old was last used in the DFB selection in October 2023 in the first two international matches under Nagelsmann during the trip to the USA against the US selection and Mexico.

Raum increases the number of absences to six after goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen (patellar tendon tear), Niclas Füllkrug (Achilles tendon irritation), Jamal Musiala (hip joint), Kai Havertz (knee) and Robin Koch (hip).

Blaswich replaced Leno as the third goalkeeper

Nagelsmann nominated Mainz international newcomer Jonathan Burkardt for Havertz. Bayern professional Musiala was replaced by Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling, who was called up for the A team for the first time. Gladbach center forward Tim Kleindienst is also part of the DFB squad for the first time for Füllkrug, who has been struggling for a long time. Kevin Schade is there for Koch. He has made three international appearances so far, most recently for the DFB in September 2023.

In the goalkeeper position, Nagelsmann appointed newcomer Janis Blaswich (33, Red Bull Salzburg) as the third man behind Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel.
