NHL 2024/25: start, end, broadcast | Kicker

When does the NHL season start?

As part of the Global Series, the NHL opener took place on October 4th in Prague. The New Jersey Devils won the first game of the regular season 4-1 against the Buffalo Sabres. From October 8th, the remaining 30 teams will also start the 2024/25 season.

How long is the regular season?

Each team plays a total of 82 games – 41 home and 41 away. After 28 game weeks, the regular season ends in April 2025. The last games before the playoffs are scheduled for April 15th to 18th. Match operations will be interrupted between February 10th and 21st, 2025 on the occasion of the 4 Nations Face-Off between Canada, Finland, Sweden and the USA.

When do the playoffs start?

The exact start of the playoffs is still being determined. So far it is only known that the best-of-7 series of the best 16 teams is scheduled to start in April 2025.

When are the Stanley Cup Finals?

The successor to the reigning NHL champions Florida Panthers will not be determined until June 2025.

Which German players are active in the NHL?

A total of seven German players are represented in the NHL, with Leon Draisaitl, who recently signed an eight-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers, even the professional who will become the highest-paid player in the league from the 2025/26 season.
