New album breaks record in England

Coldplay have set an impressive record with their latest record ‘Moon Music’ as it is the fastest-selling British album by a homegrown act in 2024. The band, made up of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion, have within Over 160,000 copies of her new work were sold in just 72 hours. This secures the group the most successful week for a British act on the Official UK Albums Chart since 2021, when Adele catapulted her album ’30’ to the top with 261,000 copies sold.

But that’s not enough! The album ‘Moon Music’ has great potential to further increase these numbers. If the trend continues, it will be Coldplay’s tenth number one studio album in the UK. A remarkable milestone that shows how strong the band’s fan base still is. For comparison: Taylor Swift set a record for the fastest-selling album of 2024 at the beginning of the year with 270,000 copies of her album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ sold. However, Coldplay has great potential to surpass this record.

A look into Coldplay’s future

In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Chris Martin stated that Coldplay is only aiming for 12 proper albums before hanging up the mic. “Less is more,” says Chris, emphasizing that quality control is the band’s top priority. Limiting the number of albums ensures that each song meets the highest standards. “There are only seven Harry Potters and 12 1/2 Beatles albums,” he explains. This strategy aims to encourage creativity while preserving the band’s legacy. This sounds like an exciting phase for the iconic group!
