How Dean Wade’s versatile game could elevate the Cavs despite injury issues

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dean Wade was thrust into an unforeseen role early in the preseason when Max Strus tied the score in the second quarter of the Cavs’ 116-112 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday.

The Cavs dealt with a series of injuries late last season that significantly impacted their playoff performance. Now, just one game into pre-season, they have already lost a key player.

With Strus sidelined, Wade stepped in to handle most of the small forward minutes with the starting unit – a role that hasn’t yet been explored in Kenny Atkinson’s new system.

“We threw Dean [Wade] at 3, which we didn’t do at all in practice,” Atkinson said.
