Ed Wheeler, veteran actor on “Law & Order” and “Blue Bloods,” dies at 88

“You will always be in my heart,” writes his wife Messeret Stroman Wheeler.

Ed Wheeler, the veteran character actor who appeared in law and order And Probably innocentHe died at the age of 88.

Wheeler died on August 21 of respiratory failure due to pneumonia complications. Weekly entertainment has confirmed. His wife, fellow actor and producer Messeret Stroman Wheeler, paid tribute to her husband on social media Monday, remembering him as a source of “light, laughter and love.”

“My darling Ed, you were more than just a public figure; you have been a guiding light, a supportive partner and my heart,” Stroman Wheeler wrote. “We built a life and created art together, and your legacy will continue to inspire. I will forever miss your voice, your wisdom and your generosity.”

Stroman Wheeler added: “To everyone who knew Ed, thank you for your love and support during this time. Let us remember him for the joy he brought into our lives and the profound impact he had on the world. Rest in peace, my darling.” You will always be in my heart.

Wheeler began his career in the industry in the early 1970s and his work also spanned theater and film. He made his screen debut in the 1978 PBS dramedy series Watch your mouthand later appeared in shows The Core of the Apple, Monster, New York Undercover, Cosby, And Law and order.

In the film, Wheeler played the role of George Weln in James L. Brooks’ 1987 film Broadcast NewsDetective Jim in the 1990s legal thriller Probably innocent, a reporter in the 1999 crime comedy Mickey blue eyes. Additional credits include The killing reflex, the sky is a playground, thinner, And Daylight. His last on-screen appearance was in a 2010 episode of A life to live And Blue blood.

Most recently he was executive producer of the historical short film Keeper of the Flameabout activist Mary Church Terrell during the first women’s suffrage parade in 1913 alongside his wife.

In 2017, Wheeler was awarded the Living Legend Award by the National Black Theater Festival for his contributions to the theater and entertainment industry.
