EA and developer Maxis are currently working on a new Sims offshoot. It doesn’t have an official name yet and therefore goes under the working title Project Rene. Thanks to a leak, you can already take a look at the possible character design and there are hints about the features of the character editor.

As is now known, Project Rene is not The Sims 5. If you want to know more about the current situation surrounding the franchise, we have summarized everything you need to know in this overview article.

By the way, the new expansion pack The Sims 4: Life and Death will be released soon. You can see what the DLC brings in the trailer:

The leak again comes from the Reddit account u/DzXAnt22, which has published alleged information about Project Rene several times in the past. The following content also apparently comes from the last playtest of the mobile version, which was playable for selected fans a few weeks ago.

Take a look at four characters included in the playtest here:

These characters are probably pre-made Sims that were built into the playtest for one of the possible professions. The four existing areas of responsibility were gardener, cook, student and poet.

According to DzXAnt22, we probably won’t necessarily see these specific models in the finished game. But they still give an insight into what the graphic style might look like and what possibilities the editor might offer. It wasn’t playable in the playtest, but Dataminer was still able to extract some exciting information from the files.

The character editor should offer these features:

  • Setting options for height and body weight
  • An option for wheelchairs
  • Clothes can be worn in layers
  • Sleeves and collar can be individually adjusted
  • Overweight and underweight should have a much more realistic effect on the appearance of your Sims
  • Horses also appear to be customizable via editor, including unicorns

More details about multiplayer

According to EA, Project Rene will focus on playing together, although there will still be a single player mode. As previous leaks have suggested, you can invite other people and work, shop and hang out together in a game world.

In the current article there is also some general information. Weather effects suggest something like: different seasons On and there will be the usual multiplayer lobby features such as voice chat, mute and invitations. Kicking unwanted people out of your world is probably also possible.

Project Rene appears to be in the early stages of development. There is currently no release date for the free offshoot. The only confirmed platforms currently are PC and mobile, but we think a console version is also likely.

What do you think: How do you like the possible character design of Project Rene?
