Jelena Dokić abused: Ex-tennis professional reveals shocking details

Jelena Dokić was already considered one of the greatest talents in professional tennis at the age of 16. The price she paid was high. In their documentary they reveal shocking details of their father’s abuse.

Former tennis star Jelena Dokić has revealed shocking details about how she was abused by her own father as a child and teenager in a moving interview. “One day after I lost, I knew what was going to happen. I felt broken inside. There wasn’t a centimeter of skin that didn’t have a hematoma,” Dokić said in her documentary film “Unbreakable,” her voice shaking. “He hit me, kicked me and verbally humiliated me,” said the 41-year-old about her father’s shocking treatment of her.

Among other things, he also whipped her with a belt and spit on her, Dokić reported. This physical and psychological abuse shaped her tennis career. Despite her talents, she suffered enormously from the violence she endured behind closed doors.

“It was a nightmare,” she insisted, adding that her successes on the pitch could not save her from suffering. At Wimbledon she once spent the night in the locker room because her father had forbidden her from coming to the hotel after she lost the semi-final.

At just 16 years old, the Serbian-born Australian reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon and was number four in the world rankings in 2002. In total, she celebrated six tournament victories and won over 4.4 million dollars in bonuses. However, the price she personally had to pay was high.

She reported that she had been abused by her father since she was six years old, physically for over 15 years and verbally for 20 years. “I was depressed for ten years, and that ultimately led to my suicide attempt,” she said of the 2022 incident (read more here).

Despite these traumatic experiences, Dokić has begun speaking publicly about them to raise awareness of abuse and encourage other victims. She hopes her story will help break the silence and encourage victims to seek help.

“It is important not to remain in silence,” said Dokić. Dokić has already spoken about the years of abuse by her father Damir in the past. She reported the terrible details for the first time as part of her documentary.
