Yates man is accused of falsely reporting mass shooting in Hopewell

A Keuka Park resident has been charged with falsely reporting a mass shooting at a retail store in the town of Hopewell. Cameron Manley, 21, was arrested on October 2 following an investigation into the November 24, 2023 incident.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Manley’s false report triggered an emergency response to the alleged shooting, which was later determined to have never occurred. Officers from the Penn Yan Police Department and the Yates County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Manley was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and given an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Hopewell Town Court at a later date to address the charges.
