Henry Cavill stars in Voltron for Amazon MGM

Amazon MGM Studios’ Giant Robot Voltron The film gets a Man of Steel.

Henry Cavill, the Superman actor and star of The Witcherhas taken on the lead role in the live-action feature film based on the mecha anime, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber.

The actor will co-helm the appeal alongside Daniel Quinn-Toye, the newcomer who impressed the studio and director with his work in the West End alongside Tom Holland.

Voltron is based on the Japanese science fiction series Beast King GoLion And Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. World Events edited and dubbed the series as a syndicated show and gave it its name Voltron: Defenders of the Universewhich ran in the mid-1980s. The focus is on five young pilots of a battalion called “Robot Lions,” which are vehicles that team up to form a mega robot called Voltron.

The plot details for the new version are unclear. Thurber co-wrote the screenplay with Ellen Shanman.

Producers are Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar of World Events Productions, David Hoberman of Thurber and Hobie Films.

Cavill appeared in two action thrillers this year, the one directed by Matthew Vaughan Argyle for Apple Original Films and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Unfriendly Warfare for Lionsgate. This summer he also made a cameo appearance that had the audience cheering Deadpool and Wolverine.

The muscular actor reunited with Ritchie for an action thriller In the graywhich will also star Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez and which will star in Chad Stahelski’s long-in-the-making remake of ” Highlanderwhich is shooting next year. He’s also executive producing a version of it Warhammer 40,000 Franchise for all Amazon MGM Studios productions.
